Protecting Homes in a New Way: Why a Firefighter Chose Weed Man

For Weed Man's newest franchisee, it’s a new uniform, but the same mission: Serving the community.

Trevor Kimmell has been a proud firefighter/EMT for the last 10 years. But now he’s taking his work ethic and his leadership from the ladder to the lawn as the new owner of Weed Man, Enid.

Answering a New Call

While he may be our newest franchisee, Trevor is far from new to the Weed Man family.

“I started with Weed Man when I was 19 years old,” he said. “They only had one truck at the time, and I ran the truck. I ran the route. I ran the sales. I did everything.”

In fact, this is not even his first time as a Weed Man owner. After a few years of wearing most of the hats for the Oklahoma City territory, he was offered the chance to buy 25% of the franchise while he was in his 20s, which was his first foray into entrepreneurship.

However, after a few years, he realized the big-city life wasn’t quite for him and felt a calling to return home.

He moved back home to Enid, where he worked in natural gas for several years. And while the work provided for his family, he described it as “pretty much just a paycheck” and always felt like there was something missing.

More Than a Paycheck

He sought something with more purpose and decided to join the volunteer fire department. After that, it didn't take long for him to find the higher purpose he was seeking.

“You're helping people cope with their emotions during a time of loss. Just that feeling of being there for someone is really fulfilling. And that's where I was like, ‘How can I get away from the lifestyle of the paycheck?’”

From that point on, Trevor was no longer working a profession—he was pursuing a passion.

He worked hard and established his career as a firefighter over the next few years while running his own lawn care business, Kimmell Weed Control. But through it all, he never lost sight of Weed Man and the potential that it offered him.

So in the fall of 2025, he made the decision to move Kimmell Weed Control over to Weed Man and go back to his lawn care roots.

“Weed Man has always been a thought. I've always wanted to kind of get back into it because I really liked everything about it. It was something I knew.”

“And with the fire service, the schedule is completely different than your average job. So I had a lot more time, and I started thinking, man, this Weed Man thing could come to fruition.”

New Team. Same Mentality

His truck and PPE may be different, but just like the fire department, Trevor still finds that success in the lawn care world boils down to teamwork.

“Being a part of a team is huge. I think with me, always being a part of something bigger than myself,” said Trevor. “That's what's always driven me, to be a part of something bigger than myself. Because I'm a firm believer that you can only take yourself so far.

“It takes community, it takes a team. It takes a network to get where you want to be or where you want to excel.”

Some say that learning something new can feel like drinking from a firehose. While Trevor doesn’t quite feel that way about returning to lawn care, he says the transition has been a challenge. But he feels good about joining a company with 55 years of experience. He said he takes comfort in knowing they have already built efficient systems and have already learned from mistakes over the years.

“They've already failed. They've already done the hard stuff. All you got to do is put in the work, do the right things, and trust the process.”

Community Focused

Today, Trevor is an entrepreneur and is getting himself even more rooted in the Enid community. His franchise is also serving areas like Kingfisher, Ponca City, and Woodward.

He said it can sometimes be surreal to work with people in the community who have seen his entire journey. He recalls one client he acquired in 2012, quite by accident.

“I blew the transmission in my pickup. The guy fixing it saw the spray tank in the back of the truck, and he asked me what I did. And I said, I spray yards. He ended up hiring me to spray his yard, and I have sprayed his yard ever since,” said Trevor.

“He has three acres. So, they have seen me go from walking all three acres to having a ride-on for all three acres and now owning Weed Man. So, they've seen the whole process of growth with everything I've done.”

Trevor is ready to hit the ground running this spring and serve the homeowners in a community that means so much to him.
