Weed Man is Here to Tackle Lubbock’s Toughest Lawns

Not too long ago, Lubbock won The Weather Channel’s contest for “America's Toughest Weather City.” And when you live in America’s Toughest Weather City, that means your lawn has to stand up to:

  • Constant drought and water restrictions
  • Damaging heat and intense sun
  • Aggressive weed pressure
  • High winds and evaporation
  • Alkaline and clay-heavy soils

But the good news is that help has arrived! Weed Man is ready to tackle Lubbock’s toughest lawns with local expertise, customized solutions, and pro-level products.

“Lubbock has been a very underserved market for years. People have low expectations for lawn care and landscaping in general,” said Weed Man’s Ben Thoennes.

Very few grass species will succeed in this climate, and the ones that do need to be maintained in a very specific way. And in Lubbock, weed control comes with its own set of challenges. This leaves no room for one-size-fits-all solutions.

Thoennes and his team are thrilled to be expanding into Lubbock after great success operating Weed Man in the Amarillo area. He says they’re already getting a great response from Lubbock’s homeowners.

“We've had quite a bit of bed control. There are a lot of new homes and townhouses popping up with rock backyards, some with rock in the front and back. We’re getting a lot of questions about overseeding with annual rye in shaded areas because Bermuda doesn't grow well under live oaks or heavy canopy.”

“And there's been a lot of response to our control of grassy weeds. A couple of local competitors exclude grassy weeds like crabgrass, bluestem, and foxtail from their services. They just tell you up front they won't control them, so that's a niche we can take advantage of.”

For Thoennes, a new Weed Man location in Lubbock means he will personally be able to leave the office and take a more boots-on-the-ground approach.

“It's time for me to reinsert myself back into the business, which is good news and very exciting.

I enjoy the customer interaction and developing a culture from the ground up.”

“We’ve been so blessed to be part of the Weed Man Network since 2022. The support from the brand team has been fantastic. The culture of Weed Man is Yard Harder. It’s a growth mindset, and we want to offer top‑tier service and grow in Lubbock.”

If you're ready to take your yard to pro-levels of green, you can start right now and get a free lawn care quote by answering a few quick questions about your lawn.
